- Attended Bixby High School in his hometown of Bixby, Oklahoma, located southeast of Tulsa … two-way player at the prep level, starring at linebacker and outside linebacker defensively and then as a running back and tight end … joined the inside linebacker room upon his arrival at Texas Tech.
- Played for one of the top high school programs in the state of Oklahoma as Bixby won its fourth-consecutive Class 6A Division I title his senior year … was part of five total state championships during prep career with four in football and one in baseball … wrapped an undefeated 13-0 season his senior year with a 31-17 victory over Owasso in the state championship game … marked the 11th-consecutive season Bixby had played for a state title.
- Tabbed the All-State Defensive Player of the Year as a senior by The Oklahoman after recording 87 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and 13 hurries … scored five times offensively with eight catches for 165 yards and four touchdowns to go along with five carries for 18 yards and another touchdown … collected first team All-State honors by the Oklahoma Coaches Association following the season.
- Jumped on college radars as a junior in 2024 with 108 total tackles (77 solo), 17.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and an interception … also recorded seven quarterback hurries en route to earning second team All-State accolades by the Oklahoma Coaches Association … caught 35 passes for 522 yards and four touchdowns that season, while also rushing 12 times for 49 yards and another score.

- Hails from a family of collegiate athletes … his grandfather, Ron Mercer, was a standout track and field athlete for the Red Raiders from 1967-71 and member of the football program … was Texas Tech’s leader in both the shot put and discuss over three different seasons as a Red Raider … cousin, Tyler Mercer, was a member of the Kansas offensive line from 2024-25 before transferring to Oklahoma State prior to the 2026 season ... father, meanwhile, played baseball at Northeastern Oklahoma State.
