HIGH SCHOOL
PERSONAL
- Saw an increased role as a redshirt freshman as a reserve cornerback and a regular on special teams … appeared in 13 of 14 games overall, missing only the road win at Houston (10/4) during Big 12 play.
- Totaled six tackles on the season, which came over five games … added two pass breakups and a fumble recovery, the latter of which was part of special teams … both pass breakups came in the first two games of the season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (8/30) and Kent State (9/6).
- Helped provide one of the early key plays in the regular-season win over BYU (11/8), falling on a muffed punt return from the Cougars following Texas Tech’s opening drive of the game … video following the play was a viral moment, showing the capacity crowd as ABC’s camera followed his reaction across the field … the Red Raiders settled for a Stone Harrington field goal on the ensuing drive for an early 3-0 lead.
- Added a tackle on punt coverage again later in that BYU win … also recorded tackles against Kent State, Oregon State (9/13) and at West Virginia (11/29) … matched his career high with two tackles at Utah on the final drive of the game.
- Credited with 97 defensive snaps by Pro Football Focus, which awarded him an impressive 82.7 overall grade … had an 86.2 grade in coverage by the publication after only one of his eight targets against him went for a completion … that one completion went for only a three-yard gain … added 155 snaps on special teams as a regular member of the kickoff coverage, punt coverage and punt return units.
2024 SEASON (FRESHMAN)
- Redshirt season … appeared in the final two games of the season against West Virginia (11/30) and Arkansas (12/27) … made both of his two tackles on the season in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, including one shared stop that went for a seven-yard loss.
- Scout team member … recognized as the defensive scout team player of the week following Texas Tech’s victory over Cincinnati (9/28).
HIGH SCHOOL
- Attended Pearland High School located just south of Houston … developed into one of the top defensive backs in the state at Pearland … helped push Pearland to the playoffs in each of his three seasons despite playing in one of the most-competitive 6A districts in the state.
- Pearland was 9-3 his senior season and 6-1 in District 23-6A after falling in the Class 6A Division I area round … blocked three field goals in Pearland’s five-overtime win over Dickinson in the first round of the playoffs, which also featured an interception.
- Named to the All-District 23-6A first team each of his final two seasons … named first team All-Greater Houston by the Houston Chronicle after finishing with 39 tackles as a senior to go along with five interceptions, seven pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
- Previously totaled 53 tackles as a junior in 2022 as well as five interceptions and nine pass breakups … showed athleticism as a threat in the return game as well with multiple punt returns for a touchdown during his prep career … tabbed to the District 23-6A second team as only a sophomore.
- Dual-sport athlete as a member of the Pearland track and field program … member of Pearland’s 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
- Consensus three-star prospect by the likes of Rivals, 247Sports, ESPN and On3 … listed as the No. 40 safety in the country by ESPN and the No. 67 prospect in the state of Texas … ranked 57th among safeties nationally by On3.
- CHOSE TEXAS TECH OVER: Army, Houston, Oregon State, Missouri, SMU, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Utah State, among others.
PERSONAL
- Ashton Hampton … prefers the nickname “Hamp” … born in Clear Lake, Texas … calls Pearland, Texas home … son of Lano and Damita Hampton … mother is a coach at Pearland High School … has four other siblings in Omar, Alaina, Addison and Anderson … older sister, Alaina, completed her junior season as an infielder for the UT-Arlington softball program in 2025.
