Tech takes game two 10-2; Kaitlyn Terry breaks program record for single-season hit streak
LUBBOCK, Texas – Kaitlyn Terry improved to 13-0 in the circle and broke the program record for consecutive games with a hit (22) after lining single into right field in the second inning of the No. 2 Red Raiders 10-2 win over Iowa State (20-12, 3-5) on Saturday at Tracy Sellers Field.
Texas Tech (33-2, 10-1) recorded its 22nd run-rule victory of the season, extending its newly set program record. Mia Williams led the day offensively for the Red Raider, going 3-for-4 with the game-winning home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Jackie Lis and Mihyia Davis both recorded multiple hits as Lis went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI as Davis went 2-for-4 and stole her 27th base of the season. The Red Raiders had 12 hits, 11 of them singles, as they just peppered the Cyclones pitching and defense en route to the victory.
Terry went all five innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three batters to remain perfect in the circle so far this season. Terry set a program record by hitting a game in each of the last 22 games, breaking a 22-year-old record set by Elyasa Sigala in 2004.
How it Happened:
Davis led off the game with a single and the Cyclones got two quick outs before the Red Raider run began. Tech hit three more singles and got a pair of walks as they took an early 4-0 lead to support Terry in the circle.
The Cyclones got a run back in the second, but Tech responded with three more runs on four hits and two walks with RBI from Lis and Desirae Spearman, both of who have been swinging a hot bat as of late.
Tech put up two more runs in the third inning as they got more hits and drew three more walks. Iowa State staved off the run-rule for a moment after making it a 9-2 game and holding Tech's offense scoreless in the bottom of the fourth.
Terry and the defense held the Cyclones scoreless in the fifth, allowing Williams to launch a home run over the trees in left field to call game and send the fans home early and happy.
