Red Raiders ready for Big 12 home series against Cyclones
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 2 Texas Tech (31-2, 8-1) will take on Iowa State (20-10, 3-3) this weekend beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by a 2 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon game on Sunday.
The Red Raiders have played the Cyclones just once in the last two seasons when they faced them in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in 2024, a game Tech won in extra innings. Tech is 44-25 all-time against the Cyclones.
Tech is coming off a mid-week victory over Tarleton State and before that a series sweep over then 24/25 UCF. The Cyclones are coming off a sweep of their own, taking down Houston on the road and took a mid-week victory over Drake last night.
Quick Hits:
Mihyia Davis is one of the most valuable players in the country and has been that way her whole career. Among active players she ranks first in hits (307), at-bats (753) and stolen bases (128). She also ranks third in runs (207) and third in games played (221). She is the only active player with 300 hits.
NiJaree Canady continues to make history as she is the first Red Raider to throw three no-hitters in their career. The reigning National Pitcher of the Year is 18 K's away from 1,000 for her career and is one of just two active players to have over 950 strikeouts. Canady had another good outing against No. 24/25 UCF on Friday as struck out eight batters Tech's 4-3 win.
Kaitlyn "KT" Terry has been arguably the team's best player through the first 33 games of the season. She leads the team with a .544 batting average, which is also fourth best in the country, and also has a 1.79 ERA and a perfect 12-0 record. Terry has found her role in the two-hole for Tech's offense.
Gerry Glasco is now 62-0 in conference series dating back to his time at Louisiana. The head coach has lost the first game of a series 10 times and has comeback to win each time. Tech looked to be in jeopardy of breaking that streak after a tough loss to Arizona in game one, but retaliated in a big way with back-to-back run-rule victories.
Tech has been a very well-rounded team this season. When the bats aren't working, the pitching is and vice versa. Against UCF, Tech hit just .250 as a team, but had a collective ERA of 1.05 and had only one error in the field all weekend.
