No. 1-seeded Tech gets 10 hits and hold the Bears to one as Williams sets program record for home runs and RBI in a season
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Red Raiders opened the Big 12 Tournament with a convincing 7-0 win over Baylor (28-26) on Thursday thanks to a combined one-hitter by the pitching staff as NiJaree Canady picked up her 22nd win in the circle.
Texas Tech (51-5) recorded 10 hits and were led by Mia Williams who finished with two home runs and two RBI, as she set the new program record for home runs (22) and RBI (72) in a single season. Jackie Lis a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, her 16th of the season. Kaitlyn Terry recorded an RBI triple and Hailey Toney got a sac-fly to round out the runs for the Red Raiders.
Mihyia Davis got back on track as she went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and scored a run. Victoria Valdez and Taylor Pannell each recorded a hit as well.
Canady finished 5.0 innings of work allowing just one hit and striking out six as she reached 200 strikeouts for the fourth consecutive season. Terry came in relief, throwing a perfect 1.2 innings before Samantha Linocln recorded the final out with just two pitches to complete the shutout.
Tech has now won in each of its last four Big 12 Tournament games via shutout dating back to last season when they won all three games without its opponents scoring a run.

The Bears made a pitching change after a pair of singles by Toney and Davis and it worked in Baylor's favor as she retired the next three Red Raider batters to get out of the fourth. Williams then took the first pitch she saw in the fifth to center field to add to Tech's lead, making it 5-0.
Terry shut down the Bears offense after a lead off walk to bring the bats back up. The Red Raiders added two more runs after Davis singled and scored on Terry's triple and Terry then crossed home on a deep sacrifice fly by Toney.
