No. 1-seeded Tech looks to repeat last year’s postseason success
OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2026 Big 12 Tournament presented by All-State begins tomorrow as the No. 1-seeded Red Raiders take on No. 8 Baylor at 1:30 p.m. at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
Texas Tech enters the tournament with a 21-29 record all time and a 11-12 record in its opening game. The Red Raiders opened up the tournament against Baylor last year too, taking that game 4-0, and are 5-1 against the Bears all-time in the Big 12 tournament. Tech won both the regular season and tournament Big 12 Titles last season and will look to repeat that in 2026.
The winner of Baylor and Tech will take on the winner of No. 5 Kansas and No. 4 UCF, who will play at 11 a.m. tomorrow, in the semifinals.
Quick Hits:
Mihyia Davis is one of the most valuable players in the country and has been that way her whole career. Among active players she ranks first in hits (331), at-bats (820) and stolen bases (136). She also ranks second in runs (231) and fourth in games played (243). She is the only one of two active players with 300 hits.
NiJaree Canady continues to make history. The reigning National Pitcher of the Year eclipsed 1,000 strikeouts for her career after striking out against BYU. Canady is just one of two active players with 1,000 career K's and the only active player with 1,000 K's and 90 wins. Canady threw her first career perfect game against Baylor on senior day as she looks to be in postseason form.
Kaitlyn "KT" Terry has been arguably the team's best player so far this season. She leads the team with a .476 batting average, which is also sixth best in the country, and also has a 1.39 ERA and a 21-1 record. Terry also set the school record with a 24-game hit streak and had a 36-game on base streak up until last weekend.
Gerry Glasco is now 67-0 in conference series dating back to his time at Louisiana. The head coach has lost the first game of a series 10 times and has comeback to win each time. Tech looked to be in jeopardy of breaking that streak after a tough loss to Arizona in game one but retaliated in a big way with back-to-back run-rule victories.
Jasmyn Burns has been on fire the past few weeks. The junior catcher hit four home runs in four games including a grand slam in the bottom of the first on Saturday against Baylor. Burns is now batting over .375 with 16 home runs and 51 RBI.
The Red Raiders had seven All-Big 12 selections, which was tied with Arizona for the most. Gerry Glasco was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season and NiJaree Canady was named Co-Pitcher of the Year, the second straight season she's won a share of the award. Canady was joined by Kaitlyn Terry, Mia Williams and Jackie Lis on the First Team while Taylor Pannell, Jasmyn Burns and Mihyia Davis were named to the Second Team. Canady and Pannell were also named to the All-Defense Team.
