Three Red Raiders homer as Tech takes game one 10-8

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders took game one of the Gainesville Super Regional on Friday afternoon after Mia Williams broke an 8-8 tie in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run bomb over the bullpen in left field. Williams, a Florida transfer, shined in her return going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two hit by pitches.

Lagi Quiroga also had a impactful day at the plate at recording just her second start since the Iowa State series back in March. The junior catcher had great at-bats, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a monster home run. Lauren Allred also was a big factor on offense, going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and an RBI double. Hailey Toney delivered a big two-out RBI double in the fourth inning to get Tech on the board.

Kaitlyn Terry got the start in the circle and pitched 5.0 solid innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out four batters. NiJaree Canady entered the game in relief and recorded her 24^th win of the season after going 2.0 innings and striking out three Gators.

How it Happened:
Williams led off the game by getting hit with first pitch and brushing it off to get the first base runner of the game on. Taylor Pannell, who made some excellent plays at third base, drew a two-out walk to get runners on first and second before Terry flew out, missing a home run by a couple of feet, as Tech went scoreless in the opening frame.

Florida (51-11) worked a lead-off walk and would come around to score on a pair of base hits to take an early 1-0 lead and get the crowd engaged. Both teams traded scoreless innings until the fourth when Texas Tech (56-6) was able to break through on offense after having several hard-hit balls go right at defenders.

Terry led off the inning by reaching on an error and would steal second two at-bats later with two outs. The Red Raiders have proven anything is possible with two outs and continued that mindset as Toney drove a ball perfectly down the right field line just on the fair side of the first base bag to bring in Terry and tie the game. Quiroga worked a full count and doubled down the left field line before Williams hit a ball in the 5-6 hole and thanks to ricochet off the glove made it to second. Tech hit three-straight two-out doubles to take a 3-1 lead.

Terry kept the momentum on Tech's side, striking out two batters to hang a zero on the board. The Gators made a pitching change going into the fifth inning and the Red Raiders jumped all over the new arm with a pair of singles and then a three-run blast off the bat of Allred. That was Allred's 10^th homer of the season making her the eighth Red Raider with double-digit home runs. With two outs, the Red Raider offense wasn't done as Quiroga smoked a ball over the scoreboard in left-center field to give Tech a commanding 7-1 lead.

Florida did not quit, however, as they got three runs back on a two-run homer and a solo shot in back-to-back at-bats. All the runs were unearned, but the damage was done as they cut into the Red Raiders lead and gave the Florida faithful some life going into the sixth inning 7-4.

Allred delivered another two-out RBI on a single through the left side to put Tech back in front by four. The Gators again responded, this time with a solo homer to lead off the inning followed by a two-out three run homer to tie the game 8-8.

In a game full of punches, the Red Raiders landed the deciding blow on a two-run monster shot by Williams – her 23^rd of the year – to make it 10-8. Canady gave up a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh but retired the next three batters on a strikeout and two fly balls to secure the important game one win.
