Red Raiders defeated the Knights 7-2 in the final game of the series
ORLANDO, Florida – The No. 3 Red Raiders took down No. 24/25 UCF on Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-2 to complete the sweep over the Knights (24-10, 3-6). Samantha Lincoln was brilliant in her start as she improved to 6-0 on the season.
Jackie Lis led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 and got Tech (30-2, 8-1) on the board first with a three-run homer. Kaitlyn Terry had four walks on four plate appearances and had an RBI after walking a walk with the bases loaded.
Lincoln is now at 6-0 on the season after going 7.0 innings and allowing just five hits while striking out seven batters. The two runs she allowed came in the bottom of the seventh and were both unearned.
Tech finished the series with 20 hits and 20 runs and took 18 walks. The pitchers allowed just three earned runs and struck out 20 batters over 20 innings of work.
How it Happened:
The Red Raiders broke through early after Mihyia Davis and Kaitlyn Terry drew back-to-back walks to open the game. Lis delivered with two outs, launching a ball over the right field fence to give Tech an early 3-0 lead.
Lincoln was dialed in from the start, striking out two of the first three batters she saw and the offense backed her up again in the second inning adding two more runs after back-to-back wild pitches scored Lauren Allred and Hailey Toney who reached on a walk and a single, respectively.
Up 5-0, Tech got runners on base in the third and fourth innings but didn't score again until the fifth when Lauren Allred drove in a run after reaching on an error. Terry drove in Tech's final run of the game after drawing her fourth walk and bumped her on-base percentage up to .639 on the season.
The Knights got two runs in the bottom of the seventh, both unearned, to avoid being shut out but weren't able to mount a big comeback as Lincoln slammed the door with her seventh strikeout of the game to end it.
UP NEXT: Tech will play a mid-week game against Tarleton State on Tuesday before hosting Iowa State.
