Red Raiders get 10-2 win over North Texas
LUBBOCK, Texas – Jackie Lis got her first two home runs of the season in No. 2 Texas Tech's 10-2 win over North Texas (8-11) on Friday night. The Red Raiders needed just five innings and walked the game off in run rule fashion thanks to a Mia Williams sixth home run of the season.
Kaitlyn Terry improved to 7-0 on the season allowing just one earned run through 5.0 innings of work. Terry also went 1-for-1 at the plate with a pair of walks and a pair of runs and stole her fourth base of the season. The Red Raiders were able to work 134 pitches from the North Texas starter tonight as she had over 100 through three innings of work. Gerry Glasco has preached to his team the importance of being disciplined at the plate and it has paid off this weekend.
Lis went 2-for-3 with four RBI as Mihyia Davis bumped her average up to .500 on the season after going 3-for-4 while also swiping three bases. Williams went 2-for-4 with three RBI including her two-run homer to end the game. Lagi Quiroga also picked up an RBI on a single through the right side in the fourth inning.
How it Happened:
North Texas got the first run of the game after reaching on an error and then coming around to score on a single. The Mean Green's lead wouldn't last long though, as Tech's offense answered quickly after Davis led off with a single and stole second base while Hailey Toney worked a walk. Tech continued to be aggressive on the base paths as they went for the double steal and forced an errant throw down to third which allowed Davis enough time to get up from her slide and cross home plate. Williams drove in Toney on a ground to give Tech an early 2-1 lead.
Terry got a pair of strikeouts in the top of the second and Lis hit her first home run as a Red Raider on a 3-2 count. Lis came back around in the bottom of the third inning to hit a three-run homer that scored Taylor Pannell and Desirae Spearman who singled and walk, respectively.
North Texas made it a 7-2 ball game after a solo home run but Terry got the next batter to ground out to eliminate the damage. Quiroga pushed Williams across to make it an 8-2 game while Terry and company threw up a zero in the top of the fifth.
Terry singled and got all the way around to third after a pair of outs before Williams took the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to end the game and improve Tech's record to 18-1.
UP NEXT: Tech will be back in action at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.
