Pannell has big offensive day as Lincoln pitches gem
PALM SPRINGS, California – No. 2 Texas Tech (13-1) defeated Bethune-Cookman in five innings 8-0 on Friday afternoon on day two of the Mary Nutter Classic.
Taylor Pannell had a good day at the plate going 2-for-3 with three RBI thanks to a home run and a double. Hailey Toney and Kaitlyn Terry both went 2-for-2 at the plate and came around to score runs. Lagi Quiroga launched a home run to center field and recorded a walk.
Samantha Lincoln improved to 4-0 on the season after throwing 4.0 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out five batters. Desirae Spearman cleaned up the final inning of work allowing just one hit that become nullified as Logan Halleman threw out a runner trying to take home to end the game.
It was a quick game, going just 77 minutes as Tech took care of business effectively with three runs in the first, two in the second and three more in the third.
Jasmyn Burns, Mihyia Davis and Jackie Lis all recorded an RBI in an unconventional way. Both Burns and Davis grounded out to drive in a run and Lis pinch hit and drew a bases-loaded walk to add the eighth and final run of the game.
Tech is now 2-0 in games that count at Mary Nutter, both have been run-rule victories. The Red Raiders game against Japan last night was an exhibition and did not count towards the team's record or stats.
UP NEXT: No. 2 Tech will face Cal State Fullerton and San Diego State tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT, respectively.
