
No. 15 Lady Raiders host two matches to close regular season

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 15-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders are looking to win a Big 12 title this weekend as they host No. 33-ranked Arizona State and No. 30-ranked Arizona to close out the regular season. On Friday, Tech will face the Sun Devils at 5 p.m., before hosting the Wildcats for senior day Sunday at 11 a.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center. If the Lady Raiders win both matches, they will earn the Big 12 regular season title.
Texas Tech (17-2, 10-1 Big 12) is tied 3-3 all-time with Arizona State, winning the last matchup by a 4-3 score on February 13, 2021 in Lubbock while also earning the last three victories over the Sun Devils. The Lady Raiders are also on a nine-match winning streak against Arizona dating back to 2013. Boasting a 9-5 record over the Wildcats, the two teams last met this season on February 16 as Tech won 4-0 in Tucson.
The Lady Raiders are led in dual singles wins by Yekaterina Dmitrichenko with an impressive 15-1 record. Dmitrichenko has won her last six singles matches and is 9-1 in Big 12 play. Hailey Murphy is just behind with 10 dual singles wins, followed by Jermine Sherif with a perfect 9-0 record, seven of those coming in conference play.
The No. 6-ranked doubles team of Avelina Sayfetdinova and Mariia Hlahola lead the Lady Raiders with 13 dual wins, all coming at the top of the lineup. Andreea Lila and Sherif are second on the team with 11 wins at court three, followed by the tandem of Murphy and Dmitrichenko with nine wins at court two.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The No. 33 Arizona State Sun Devils are 12-7 on the season and 7-4 in Big 12 play. Arizona State recently lost to Baylor, Arizona and Oklahoma State, but also defeated TCU, Kansas State and Cincinnati. The Sun Devils are led in dual singles wins by No. 45 Sara Svetac with 11 wins, most coming at court one. No. 49 Emilija Tverijonaite is close behind with 10 wins split between courts one and two. In dual doubles, No. 61-ranked Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor lead the way with a 10-3 record at court one.
The No. 30-ranked Arizona Wildcats are 17-8 on the year and 7-4 in conference play. The Wildcats recently beat TCU, Arizona State and Tulsa, while falling to Baylor, TCU and Kansas State. Arizona is led in dual singles wins by Tanvi Narendran with an 18-4 record, 11 of those wins coming at court four. Behind her in wins are No. 123 Midori Castillo with 11 and Zoya Chulak with 10. In addition, Josie Usereau has eight wins, six coming at court one, as she ranks No. 61 in the country. In dual doubles, the No. 37 duo of Danielle Tuhten and Usereau lead the team with seven wins, while the No. 65 tandem of Castillo and Martyna Ostrzygalo have four.
