Tech's 2014 recruiting class has received a pair of national rankings - 13th by Collegiate Baseball and now 23rd by Baseball America
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech baseball received its second national ranking for its current newcomers on campus as Baseball America ranked the Red Raiders' 2014 recruiting class 23rd in the nation.
It marks the first time in Baseball America's 15-year recruiting class rankings history that Texas Tech has made an appearance in the top-25.
This same recruiting class was ranked 13th in the country earlier this fall by Collegiate Baseball, a ranking that matched the program's highest ever for a recruiting class (2000).
Tech head coach Tim Tadlock and his coaching staff, recruiting coordinator J-Bob Thomas, pitching coach Ray Hayward, volunteer assistant coach Matt Gardner and director of operations Joe Hughes, have seen unparalleled success in recruiting during three years with the Red Raider program.
Tadlock and company's first recruiting class (2013) was ranked 24th nationally by Perfect Game and tabbed 27th by Collegiate Baseball. Tech's second recruiting class under Tadlock and his staff (2014) has now been ranked 13th (Collegiate Baseball) and 23rd (Baseball America).
The last time Texas Tech had back-to-back years with a nationally-ranked recruiting class was in 2000 (13th) and 2001 (16th).
Tech's 2014 recruiting class: RHP Garrett Bruce (Hill College), RHP/OF Quinn Carpenter (Iowa Western CC), INF/OF Landon Darwin (North Central Texas College), C Nick Marshall (Panola College), INF Cory Raley (Temple College), C Kholeton Sanchez (New Mexico JC), INF/OF William Hairston (Frank Phillips College), INF/OF Hunter Hargrove (North Central Texas College), C Hunter Southerland (Northeast Texas CC), INF Michael Davis (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS), INF Orlando Garcia (El Paso, Texas/Americas HS), INF/OF Tanner Gardner (Frisco, Texas/Centennial HS), LHP Jackson Lancaster (Midland, Texas/Midland HS), RHP/OF Patrick Mahomes II (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse HS), LHP/1B Parker Mushinski (Argyle, Texas/Argyle HS) and LHP Jacob Patterson (Garland, Texas/Berkner HS).
