Tech back home for first time since April 4
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 2/5 Texas Tech (47-4, 19-2) are set to host its first home game since April 4 as they welcome in Tarleton State (34-18, 12-3) for a game tonight at 6 p.m. at Tracy Sellers Field.
The Red Raiders had two long road trips of six games in six days followed by five games in five days and will be at home for the rest of the regular season. Tech won its second-straight Big 12 Regular Season title after sweeping Arizona State last weekend.
The Texans come into town having 13 of their last 17 since facing the Red Raiders and are one game back of first place in the WAC standings. The Red Raiders are 4-1 against them all time including their game earlier this season.
Quick Hits:
Mihyia Davis is one of the most valuable players in the country and has been that way her whole career. Among active players she ranks first in hits (330), at-bats (810) and stolen bases (136). She also ranks second in runs (230) and fourth in games played (239). She is the only active player with 300 hits.
NiJaree Canady continues to make history. The reigning National Pitcher of the Year eclipsed 1,000 strikeouts for her career after striking out against BYU. Canady is just one of two active players with 1,000 career K's and the only active player with 1,000 K's and 90 wins. Canady had another good outing against Arizona State, going 2-0 including a game where she had 9 K's.
Kaitlyn "KT" Terry has been arguably the team's best player so far this season. She leads the team with a .485 batting average, which is also sixth best in the country, and also has a 1.47 ERA and a 19-1 record. Terry also set the school record with a 24-game hit streak and had a 36-game on base streak up until last weekend.
Gerry Glasco is now 66-0 in conference series dating back to his time at Louisiana. The head coach has lost the first game of a series 10 times and has comeback to win each time. Tech looked to be in jeopardy of breaking that streak after a tough loss to Arizona in game one, but retaliated in a big way with back-to-back run-rule victories.
Jackie Lis has been on fire at the plate over the last few weeks. The senior is up to 15 homers on the season which puts her at 59 for her career, the 5th most of any active player.
