Tech primed for Big 12 Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 31-ranked and 10-seeded Texas Tech Lady Raiders are ready for the Big 12 Tournament at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., as they face the No. 41-ranked and 7-seeded Houston Cougars on Wednesday at 9 a.m. CT in the First Round.
Texas Tech (16-9, 7-6 Big 12) finished the regular season on a two-match winning streak over No. 20 TCU and No. 34 Baylor. Against the Horned Frogs, Tech won a much-needed doubles point after Hailey Murphy/Yekaterina Dmitrichenko as well as Ella Brownback/Andreea Lila earned doubles wins. In singles, Dmitrichenko, Elena Daskalova and Brownback won to defeat TCU by a 4-3 score. Against the Bears, Tech once again won the doubles point with wins at courts one and two. In singles, Murphy and Dmitrichenko picked up ranked wins, while Daskalova added a 6-0, 6-1 victory for the 4-1 win.
In dual singles, the Lady Raiders are led by Murphy with 12 wins, followed by Dmitrichenko with nine and both Mariia Hlahola and Havana Kadi with eight apiece. In dual doubles, the No. 77 pairing of Murphy and Dmitrichenko lead the team with an impressive 21-3 record, all coming at court one. Behind them is Daskalova and Hlahola with a 9-5 record.
Tech is heading to the Big 12 Tournament as the 10-seed, the final team making it into the championship. Last year, the Lady Raiders won their second Big 12 Tournament title after beating Kansas, Baylor and UCF for the title. Dmitrichenko was named the tournament's most outstanding performer. Tech and Houston are meeting one another for the first time in the Big 12 Tournament. Tech has the chance to be the second highest seed to advance from the First Round as 14-seeded Colorado advanced in 2025 with a win over Iowa State.
Scouting the Opponent
The No. 41 Houston Cougars finished the regular season with a 17-5 overall record and an 8-5 Big 12 record. Houston ended the season on a five-match winning streak, with key victories against Kansas State, West Virginia and Cincinnati. Their five losses were to UCF, Kansas, Arizona, Arizona State and Texas Tech. Houston is led in dual singles by Sophie Schouten with a 16-1 record and a perfect 7-0 Big 12 record. Just behind her is Valeriia Krokhotina with a 14-1 record. In dual doubles, the pairing of Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli lead the way with a 13-5 record, followed by the duo of Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame with a 12-5 record.
