Lady Raiders advance at Big 12 Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. – Behind a dominant outing in doubles and singles play, the No. 31-ranked and 10-seeded Texas Tech Lady Raiders defeated the No. 41-ranked and 7-seeded Houston Cougars, 4-1, in the First Round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus. With this win, the Lady Raiders became just the second highest-seeded team to advance out of the First Round of the Big 12 Tournament 14-seeded Colorado advanced in 2025 with a win over Iowa State.
Texas Tech (17-9) picked up the doubles point over Houston (17-6) to start the match with a 1-0 lead. At the top court, No. 83 Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy recorded their 11th-straight doubles win after beating Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli. The Lady Raider pair won their match, 6-1, and have only dropped three total games in their last four doubles matches. Clinching the doubles point was the team of Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola over Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame at court two. After tying at 3-3, the Tech tandem won the next three games for the 6-3 victory.
Houston tied things up at 1-1 when Schouten defeated Brownback at court six, 6-2, 6-2. Dmitrichenko retook the lead for the Lady Raiders with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zeghlouli at court two. Tech got simultaneous finishes from Murphy and Havana Kadi at courts one and five, respectively, to clinch the match. Kadi was able to take down Drame by a 6-3, 6-0 score, before Murphy won her match over Morozova, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch. When the match finished, Daskalova was ahead of Valeriia Krokhotina at court three, 7-5, 4-2 (40-30), while Hlahola was about to force a third set over Iva Sepa at court four with a 3-6, 5-3 score.
Up next, the Lady Raiders play in the quarterfinals against No. 11 Arizona State on Thursday at 1 p.m. CT.
