Red Raiders have record-setting offensive day against Islanders
The Red Raiders (22-1) closed out its home opening tournament hitting 19 home runs, batting .526 and had an ERA of 0.88 including two no-hitters and struck out 40 batters. Kaitlyn Terry was superhuman this weekend, hitting .769 with 19 total bases while also going 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA including a no-hitter and hit her first home run of the season.
Lagi Quiroga hit three home runs on the day, two against the Islanders and one against the Mean Green. Lubbock native Makayla Garcia hit the record breaking 23rd hit on a double and also recorded her first career home run. Desirae Spearman picked up her first in the circle after going 3.0 innings and allowing just one hit and one walk against the Islanders.
How it Happened:
Samantha Lincoln the start in the circle against the Islanders and went 2.0 innings with two strikeouts before Spearman came in to close out the game. Tech jumped on the pitcher early going for nine runs in the first inning and 10 in the second.
Mihyia Davis, Terry, Lauren Allred, Mia Williams, Quiroga, Lis and Garcia all hit home runs in the game as nine different Red Raiders recorded RBI and multiple hits. Terry, Quiroga and Williams recorded four RBI while Allred, Spearman and Garcia each recorded three.
In the second game, Quiroga blasted another home run and Jasmyn Burns came into pinch hit and launched a two-run homer to put the Red Raiders 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
Terry improved to 9-0 on the season after going 6.0 innings against North Texas and allowing just two earned runs with five strikeouts. Chloe Riassetto pitched the final frame of the game and went three-up, three-down to secure the win for Tech.
UP NEXT: Tech will begin Big 12 play as they head to Houston to take on the Cougars next weekend.
