No. 1 Red Raiders take both games in Clearwater opener

Tech takes down No. 6 Florida State and Northwestern
CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 1 Texas Tech took down No. 6 Florida State, 3-2, on Thursday in a Super Regional rematch. The Red Raiders later returned to defeat Northwestern, 5-0, in the final game of the night.

Kaitlyn Terry improved to 3-0 on the season after throwing 6.0 innings with six strikeouts while allowing one earned run on four hits.

NiJaree Canady also moved to 3-0 and recorded a save, striking out eight over 6.0 innings while allowing just two hits.
Â
Logan Halleman delivered the highlight of the day across the softball world. With one out and a runner on first in the top of the seventh against the Seminoles, the junior left fielder made a leaping catch at the wall and fired a throw to Mia Williams, who relayed it to first to complete an incredible double play and secure the win.

Jackie Lis and Lauren Allred came up big for the Red Raiders. Lis delivered a two-out, two-run double against Florida State, while Allred went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored against Northwestern.

Mihyia Davis added key at-bats, recording the game-tying RBI against Florida State before driving in two insurance runs late against Northwestern.

Taylor Pannell made a web gem at third base, diving for a ball and delivering a strike to first for the out. She then went 3-for-4 against the Wildcats to raise her batting average to .423 on the season.

GAME ONE (vs. Florida State)

The Red Raiders opened the Clearwater Invitational against the Seminoles. Terry got the start in the circle, improving to 3-0 after striking out six and allowing one earned run. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a leadoff double in the bottom of the fifth and later scored to tie the game, 1-1, on an RBI single from Davis.

Lis stepped up with two outs in the inning and, on a 2-0 count, delivered a clutch double to give Tech a 3-1 lead entering the final two frames.

Florida State added an unearned run in the top of the sixth before Canady entered to secure the final three outs, highlighted by Halleman's game-ending double play in left field.

GAME TWO (v. Northwestern)
Tech had roughly a two-hour break before facing Northwestern. Samantha Lincoln made her third start of the season, throwing 1.2 innings with one strikeout. Canady entered with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the second and quickly recorded the third out before tossing 5.0 scoreless innings.

Canady settled into a rhythm, striking out eight and commanding the strike zone throughout.

Allred drove in the first run of the game with a double to left and later scored on a Lagi Quiroga double as Tech built a 2-0 lead.

Quiroga added an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning before Davis extended the lead with a two-RBI single in the sixth.

Canady continued to deal, and Chloe Riassetto recorded the final out from the circle as Tech improved to 8-0 on the season.
