Furman Fall Classic
Sleptsova, Brownback win doubles flight

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Freshmen Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova played in their first collegiate tournament and won their flight in doubles at the Furman Fall Classic. In addition, No. 49-ranked Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Mariia Hlahola were doubles flight finalists and Dmitrichenko was a singles flight finalist.
The pair of Brownback and Sleptsova opened with a win against Heidi Bulger and Sankavi Gownder of Wake Forest, 6-4. The following day, they took down the tandem of Nicole Sifuentes and Mansi Vadyala of Indiana in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4). Then, they earned a dominant win against the Furman duo of Bianca Ceroni and Molly Robinson with a bagel, 6-0, to clinch the doubles flight title.
No. 49 Dmitrichenko and Hlahola posted wins over Mississippi State's Gianna Oboniye and Carolina Troiano, 6-3, as well as Georgia Tech's Given Roach and Seri Nayuki, 6-3, to reach their flight finals. Dmitrichenko also reached the finals in singles flight one after defeating Roach, 6-4, 6-3, and Reese Sager of Kentucky, 6-4, 7-6 (3). In the finals, she fought hard against No. 24-ranked Kaitlyn Carnicella of South Carolina, but fell by a 6-3, 7-5 score.
Sleptsova earned her first collegiate singles win in comeback fashion against Penn State's Patricia Grigoras, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. She picked up a victory against Mississippi State's Mia Robinson on the final day of competition, 6-2, 6-2. Brownback also recorded her first collegiate singles wins after overtaking Furman's Macy Hitchcock, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and Alabama's Amina Salibayeva, 6-0, 6-1. Hlahola added a singles win on the final day of the Furman Classic against Penn State's Olivia Dorner, 7-5, 6-2.
The Lady Raiders totaled 12 overall wins in the first tournament of the fall season, with seven coming in singles and five coming in doubles. Tech continues competition next week with the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains on Sept. 19-21 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
