Red Raiders Sweep the Top Three Singles Draws
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Texas Tech women's tennis put together a dominant showing at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains over the weekend, capturing the overall team title behind three singles flight championships and an impressive collection of all-Red Raider finals.
Jennifer Jackson, Teodora Prisadnikova and Polina Sleptsova each claimed titles in their respective draws, while Kaili Teso, Raegan Farm and Havana Kadi finished as runners-up, giving Texas Tech both spots in the championship match of each of the tournament's top three singles flights.
Jackson led the way in the Alpha Draw, opening with straight-set victories over Naledi Manyube, Leyla Tozin and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia to advance to the championship match. On the opposite side of the draw, Kadi earned wins over Silver Bijlsma, Sabina Pintea and Vianca Corley to set up an all-Texas Tech final. Jackson ultimately secured the title with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory over her teammate.
The Bravo Draw featured another strong performance from the Red Raiders, with Prisadnikova and Farm advancing through opposite sides of the bracket. Farm battled through victories over Antonella Taco Villarreal, Ruby Broadbent and Diana Lizarazo, while Prisadnikova defeated Naomi Schraeder and Taya Powell before knocking off fellow Red Raider Ella Brownback in the semifinals. In the championship match, Prisadnikova outlasted Farm, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, to earn the flight crown.
Brownback also turned in an impressive tournament, collecting wins over Veronika Zarovna and Ana Veroux before falling to Prisadnikova in the semifinals.
Texas Tech completed its sweep of the top singles flights in the Delta Draw. Sleptsova advanced to the title match with wins over Ivona Ridan, Allegra Hodson and Kate Craver, while Teso reached the final after defeating Toa Christopulos, Lily Bazemore and Chahd Tourkhani. Sleptsova claimed the championship with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Teso.
Sleptsova's win continued a red-hot start to her fall, as the Red Raider has now claimed singles titles in consecutive tournaments without dropping a set, as she secured the Flight C crown at the ACU Invitational on Sept. 20.
The Red Raiders also saw success in doubles competition. The tandem of Brownback and Jackson advanced to the semifinals of the Blue Draw with victories over Eugenia Ceinos and Antonella Taco Villarreal and Maria Matsoukatidi and partner before falling in the semifinals. Kadi and Farm also reached the semifinals after a pair of wins, including a 6-0 opening-round victory over Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia and Ruby Young.
In the Silver Draw, Prisadnikova and Teso rebounded from an opening-round loss by advancing to the consolation final with dominant victories over Victoria Cajigas and Amy Findlay and Kate Bumgardner and Alexi Cleveland.
