Nine Red Raiders head to Baylor for an action-packed weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech women's tennis team heads to Waco this week for the ITA Texas Regional Championships, set to begin Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Competition opens Thursday with the singles qualifying draw before the main draw gets underway Friday with the singles and doubles rounds of 64. Laura Pop will be the first Red Raider in action, facing Giuliana Giardina in the qualifying round of 64 at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
The remainder of the Texas Tech lineup, Jennifer Jackson, Teodora Prisadnikova, Valerie Shue, Polina Sleptsova, Kaili Teso, Raegan Farm, Havana Kadi and Ella Brownback, will begin play Friday in the singles and doubles main draws.
Texas Tech enters the ITA Texas Regional Championships following a dominant showing at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains, where the Red Raiders captured the team title behind three singles flight championships. Jennifer Jackson, Teodora Prisadnikova and Polina Sleptsova each claimed titles in their respective draws, while Kaili Teso, Raegan Farm and Havana Kadi finished as runners-up. Texas Tech swept the championship match spots in each of the tournament's top three singles flights, highlighting the depth of the Red Raider lineup. Sleptsova continued her impressive fall campaign by securing her second consecutive singles title without dropping a set.
The Red Raiders also found success in doubles competition, with multiple pairs advancing deep into their draws. Brownback and Jackson reached the semifinals of the Blue Draw, while Kadi and Farm also advanced to the semifinals after opening with a pair of victories. In the Silver Draw, Prisadnikova and Teso rebounded from an opening-round loss to reach the consolation final, helping Texas Tech put together a strong all-around performance on its way to the team championship.
While the main draw schedule has not yet been finalized, two singles players and one doubles team will earn spots in the NCAA Individual Championships in November. The two singles finalists and the doubles champions will receive the automatic bids.
