
Lady Raiders host two matches to end regular season

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 27 Texas Tech Lady Raiders are set to host their final two regular season matches at the McLeod Tennis Center this week. First, the Lady Raiders face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday, April 11 at 5 p.m. before hosting Senior Day against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m. to recognize Mariya Polishchuk, Metka Komac and Camryn Stepp.
Texas Tech (15-7, 8-3 Big 12) is coming off a tough loss to the Oklahoma Sooners last Saturday, 3-4. In the match, No. 7-ranked Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova added a ranked doubles win to their resume after defeating No. 19 Dana Guzman and Roisin Gilheany, 6-2. In singles, Sayfetdinova also picked up a ranked win at court three over No. 97 Alina Shcherbinina, 7-6 (5), 6-1, while Yekaterina Dmitrichenko posted a ranked victory against No. 55 Florence Urrutia at court four, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
The Lady Raiders are currently led in singles by Andreea Lila, No. 49 Cristina Tiglea and Sayfetdinova, who boast 11 dual wins apiece. Following right behind is Polishchuk with 10 dual wins of her own and Komac with nine. Lila leads the team with an 8-1 overall singles record in Big 12 and is currently on a six-match win streak. On the doubles side, the top two courts lead the way as Komac and Sayfetdinova total a 16-2 dual record at court one while Polishchuk and Tiglea tally a 15-4 record at two doubles. Â
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The West Virginia Mountaineers are coming into the match with a 14-9 overall record and a 3-8 record in conference. Those three Big 12 wins have come against Iowa State (4-1), Houston (6-1) and Cincinnati (7-0). The Mountaineers' last three losses were against Kansas (2-5), Kansas State (3-4) and Oklahoma State (0-7). West Virginia is led in singles by Momoko Nagato with 13 dual wins followed by Maja Dodik with 12 and Tatiana Lipatova with 10. In doubles, the duo of Nagato and Michaela Kucharova lead the way with an 11-6 record all at court one while Dodik and Maya Bordereau are right behind with a 10-4 dual record and five wins each at courts two and three.
The Cincinnati Bearcats have an overall record of 8-12 and a 1-10 record in Big 12. Cincinnati's one win in conference came against Houston (4-0) back on March 24. The Bearcats are currently on a four-match losing streak in Big 12 play after dropping contests to Kansas (1-6), Iowa State (3-4), Oklahoma State (0-4) and K-State (1-6). Rozalia Gruszczynska leads the Bearcats on the singles front as she totals 10 dual wins with eight of those coming at court one. In doubles, Gruszczynska and Gabrielle Guenther as well as Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe total a team-leading nine dual wins on the year.
