Red Raiders fall at No. 28 Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Texas Tech Red Raiders won a close doubles point, but the No. 28 Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders picked up the 4-1 win on Friday evening at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Texas Tech (6-6) began the match by earning an exciting doubles point against the Blue Raiders (11-7). First at court two, Jonas Gundacker and Reed Collier paired up against the duo of Javier Cueto Ramos and Shu Matsuoka. The Red Raiders got their first break to go ahead 5-3, then held serve to win it by a 6-3 score.
Both remaining courts were locked in battles as it would be court three's Lorenzo Esquici and Olle Wallin to clinch the point. Esquici and Wallin took a 3-1 lead over Karim Al-Amin and Marcel Kamrowski to start the match, but the Blue Raiders would win four of the next five games to take a 5-4 lead. The Red Raiders tied it with a break, then forced a tiebreaker, in which they won by a 7-6 (2) score to give Tech the 1-0 advantage and the Blue Raider pair their first defeat in doubles.
Middle Tennessee didn't let the early deficit deter them as they won five of six first sets in singles and kept that momentum throughout. The Blue Raiders would take the lead after courts three and four finished within minutes apart. At court three, Ondrej Horak defeated Esquici by a 6-0, 6-2 score before Demis Taramonlis beat Gundacker at court four, 6-0, 6-1, to give MTSU a 2-1 advantage.
Then, Middle Tennessee took a 3-1 lead whenever No. 33 Leo Raquin overtook No. 85 Wallin at court one by a 6-4, 6-3 score. The Blue Raiders clinched the match at court two when No. 107 Kamrowski won the match over No. 91 Collier, 6-4, 6-2. When the match was called, freshman Niksa Arsic was ahead of Jakub Kroslak at court five by a 6-4, 3-2 score.
Up next, Texas Tech heads to Cookeville, Tenn., to take on Tennessee Tech this Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
