
Texas Tech prepares to face the Lobos

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech men's tennis is back home on Friday, March 8 for a match against the New Mexico Lobos. The match will be played at the McLeod Tennis Center starting at 11 a.m.
The Red Raiders (6-6) are coming off a ranked loss to No. 28 Middle Tennessee, 1-4. Texas Tech was able to win the doubles point, with Reed Collier and Jonas Gundacker winning 6-3 on court two, and Lorenzo Esquici and Olle Wallin clinching the point with a 7-6 (2) score on court three. No. 32 Sebastian Abooud and Piotr Pawlak were in a tightly contested battle, trailing 5-6 before the match went unfinished. All three pairings have endured success this season in dual matches, as Abboud and Pawlak are 8-1 with two ranked wins, Collier and Gundacker are 4-2, and Esquici and Wallin are 5-3. Texas Tech has a home record of 5-1.
No. 117 Wallin had a tough matchup in his last outing against Middle Tennessee's No. 33 Leo Raquin, losing 4-6, 3-6. He is now 7-3 in dual matches from court one and looks to end a two-match losing streak.
No. 122 Collier made his return after six missed matches last Friday. He was defeated for the first time in dual singles, 4-6, 2-6, by Middle Tennessee's No. 107 Marcel Kamrowski on court two, moving his overall record to 5-1. He is 3-1 against ranked opponents.
The other Red Raider with a winning dual record is freshman Niksa Arsic. He is 4-3 overall and was leading in his last match against Middle Tennessee's Jakub Kroslak 6-4, 3-2, before going unfinished.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
New Mexico (7-3) comes to Lubbock after a road loss to No. 54 Santa Clara, 3-4. Before the ranked defeat, the Lobos won seven of their previous eight matches, with their only loss during that stretch at the hands of No. 45 Arkansas, 3-4. UNM has three singles players with at least seven dual wins in No. 93 Arda Azkara (8-0), Arthur Bellegy (7-3), and Georgio Samaha (7-2). Against Santa Clara, Azkara defeated No. 52 Christian Lerby in straight sets on court one, 7-5, 6-4, but Bellegy fell to No. 123 Guillaume Dalmasso, 2-6, 3-6, and Samaha fell to Luca Lemaitre, 2-6, 6-1, 1-6. Texas Tech is 16-28 against New Mexico all-time, but the Red Raiders have won nine of the last ten matchups. Their last meeting was in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 27, 2021, with Texas Tech coming out on top, 4-2.Â
