Red Raiders head to Fort Worth for action-packed weekend
LUBBOCK – The Texas Tech men's tennis team remains in the Lone Star State this weekend as it travels to Fort Worth for the ITA Texas Regional Championships.
Competition begins Thursday with the singles qualifying draw before the main draw opens Friday with the singles and doubles rounds of 64. Joseph Patton and Thomas Van Den Dooren will be the first Red Raiders in action, with qualifying matches beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The remainder of the Texas Tech lineup, Niksa Arsic, Ludovico Vaccari, Max Pade, Imran Daniel Hazli, Felipe Pagnacco, Thiago Guglieri and Miguel Angel Machado, will begin play Friday in the singles and doubles main draws.
Texas Tech enters the regional championships after a runner-up finish at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic, where the Red Raiders posted team victories over Tulane and Georgia Tech before advancing to the tournament final. Tech swept doubles play in both duals and secured a combined seven singles victories to earn wins over the Green Wave and Yellow Jackets.
The tandem of Thiago Guglieri and Felipe Pagnacco led the way in doubles competition, posting a 2-0 record during the team's victories, while Joseph Patton and Thomas Van Den Dooren also contributed a pair of doubles wins. In singles action, Guglieri went undefeated throughout the weekend, and Pagnacco added two straight-set victories as the Red Raiders secured their spot in the championship match.
Though the main draw schedule has not yet been finalized, two singles players and one doubles team will earn spots in the NCAA Individual Championships in November. The two singles finalists and the doubles champions will receive the automatic bids.
