
Sayfetdinova posts ranked victory in loss to No. 18 OSU

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After collecting three singles wins, including a ranked one, the No. 36 Lady Raiders fell in a tight match to the No. 18 Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 4-3, in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Friday evening at the Lawrence Sports Pavilion.
Oklahoma State (15-6) started out with what was a crucial point in doubles over the Lady Raiders (14-10). The Cowgirls were able to get a win first at court three whenever Lucia Peyre and Sofia Rojas overtook Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp, 6-1.
OSU clinched the point at court one as No. 14 Raquel Gonzalez and Ayumi Miyamoto defeated No. 33 Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova by a 6-4 score. When the point was won, Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea were on serve at court two as the OSU duo of Kristina Novak and Alana Wolfberg were ahead, 5-4.
In singles, the Cowgirls jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Gonzalez picked up a win at court six over Andreea Lila. But, Peet had a dominant showing at the top court as she collected a victory against Novak in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Peet is now on a three-match win streak and has nine wins at court one.
Oklahoma State got another point on the board when Miyamoto beat Tiglea at court four. Over at court five, Komac cut into the Cowgirls' lead as she came up with a gritty win against Rojas. Komac won set one by a commanding, 6-1 score, before surrendering the second set to Rojas, 6-4. Komac rallied back to get a 6-2, third set win to tally her 11th dual singles victory of the season.
At court two, Sayfetdinova tied things up when she added her fifth ranked victory of the year by defeating No. 112 Wolfberg. The Cowgirl took an early lead after taking set one, 6-4. The Lady Raider evened the score with a 6-3 win in the second set. Then, Sayfetdinova posted a 6-2 win in the third set to claim the match and make it 3-3.
With all eyes on court three, Dmitrichenko was taking on Peyre as the two went into the match's third three-setter of the evening. Dmitrichenko would take the lead after winning the first set by a 6-4 score. But the Cowgirl would come back to win the next two sets and clinch the match for Oklahoma State, 4-3.
The Lady Raiders will now await the NCAA Tournament as the selection show will be held on May 1.
