
Tech collects ranked doubles win in loss to No. 9 Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 50 duo of Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova continue their hot streak with a win against the No. 41 doubles team in the country, but the No. 33 Texas Tech Lady Raiders drop their Big 12 match against the No. 9 Texas Longhorns, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The windy afternoon contest between the Lady Raiders (13-7, 3-3 Big 12) and the Longhorns (17-3, 7-1 Big 12) began with some hard-fought doubles as Texas eventually came up with the doubles point for an early lead.
The first match at court three ended with the Longhorn pair of Nicole Kirin and Malaika Rapolu defeating the Lady Raider duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp, 6-2.
Court one featured No. 50 Komac and Sayfetdinova facing No. 41 Charlotte Chavatipon and Sabina Zeynalova. The Lady Raiders would win their fourth-consecutive doubles match after posting a 6-4 victory against the Longhorns.
The doubles match between Texas Tech's pairing of Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea and Texas' Nicole Rivkin and Taisiya Pachkaleva began with a 5-3 Texas advantage. Peet and Tiglea fought back to lead the match 6-5 before going to a 6-6 tiebreaker. In the breaker, Texas would clinch the doubles point after winning it by a score of 7-6 (2).
Texas ended up striking first in singles to add to their advantage with No. 76 Khirin defeating Peet 6-2, 6-3 at court one.
At court four, Dmitrichenko rallied from a 5-2 deficit in set two to almost even the match up before falling to Pachkaleva, 6-1, 6-4. Texas then clinched the match at court six with Rivkin winning against Andreea Lila, 6-3, 6-1.
The Lady Raiders were holding their own during the second sets when the match was finished. Tiglea was tied in her contest with No. 110 Zeynalova, 2-2. Sayfetdinova was trailing 4-3 against No. 66 Chavatipon at court two, while Komac would win the final point of her match to make it 2-3 at court five.
Up next, Texas Tech is back home on Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m. against TCU for the Big 12 match up.
