
Lady Raiders open Big 12 Tournament against Cowgirls

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 36 Texas Tech Lady Raiders (14-9, 4-5 Big 12) travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the Big 12 Tournament hosted on April 20-23. Tech is set to face the No. 18-ranked and four-seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Friday, April 21 at 3 p.m.
Coming into the conference tournament as the five seed, the Lady Raiders split last weekend's regular season finales with West Virginia and No. 12 Iowa State. Against the Mountaineers, Texas Tech recorded its first, seven-point sweep of a conference opponent in the regular season since March 2021 after sweeping WVU, 7-0. In the match, Tech won the doubles point with victories at courts one and three, before winning all six singles matches without dropping a set.
In the following match versus ISU, Tech challenged the 12th-ranked Cyclones as the two teams recorded five, three-set matches. Iowa State claimed the doubles point, then posted wins at courts six and two for a 3-0 lead. Over at the top of the lineup, fifth-year senior Olivia Peet put together a tough win over her third ranked opponent of the year as she defeated No. 56 Thasaporn Naklo, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3).
In singles, freshman Yekaterina Dmitrichenko continues to lead the team with 13 dual wins, followed by Avelina Sayfetdinova with 11 and Metka Komac and Cristina Tiglea with 10 apiece. In doubles, the tandem of Sayfetdinova and Komac are rolling as they post a team-best 12 dual wins and five ranked wins. Peet and Tiglea are right behind with nine dual doubles victories of their own.
In the latest ITA rankings released on Tuesday, the doubles team of Komac and Sayfetdinova moved up as they now sit at No. 33 in the country.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Oklahoma State comes into the match as the four seed as they boast a 14-6 overall record and finished conference with a 7-2 record. The Cowgirls' two losses in the Big 12 came against Iowa State and Oklahoma. OSU has now ranked in the top-20 this season for six-straight weeks as they check in at No. 18 after winning their final two Big 12 matches against Kansas and Kansas State. The Cowgirls have one player ranked in singles as Alana Wolfberg is No. 112. In doubles, the duo of Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez are ranked No. 14 and are on a three-match win streak.
