
Lady Raiders begin conference play with OU, OSU

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are making a trip to Oklahoma this weekend to start Big 12 play as they take on the No. 22 Oklahoma Sooners on Friday March 17 at 5 p.m., then face the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Sunday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
Tech has had a couple weeks off after picking up two wins over UT Arlington and No. 48 SMU earlier in the month. The Lady Raiders beat the Mavericks by a 5-2 score, getting the doubles point and then collecting wins at courts two, three, four and six. Against the Mustangs, Tech recorded its seventh sweep and ninth doubles point of the season as the Lady Raiders won at courts two, five and six.
Yekaterina Dmitrichenko still leads the team with 18 total singles wins while both her and Arina Oreshchenkova tie with a team-best eight dual singles wins. In doubles, Cristina Tiglea and Metka Komac lead tech with 20 total wins, while Tiglea and Olivia Peet post a team-high seven dual doubles victories.
In the ITA rankings, Avelina Sayfetdinova is the only Lady Raider ranked in singles as she checks in at No. 117. In doubles, two teams are ranked as Komac and Tiglea are No. 40 and Komac and Sayfetdinova are ranked No. 77.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Oklahoma Sooners are 10-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Texas tech played Oklahoma for a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships back on Jan. 29, dropping the match to the Sooners, 4-0. The Sooners were able to get a first-round win at ITA Indoors against No. 4 Duke, 4-2. In conference play, OU lost to No. 12 Texas by a 5-2 score and defeated Baylor, 6-1, last week. The Sooners have two players ranked in singles – Dana Guzman (86) and Carmen Corley (97) – while two doubles teams are ranked - Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth (8) and Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley (32).
Oklahoma State is 9-4 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls have wins against Oregon, No. 41 South Carolina and UC Santa Barbara. Their losses came against No. 16 Michigan, No. 11 Ohio State and No. 9 Pepperdine. In conference play, the Cowgirls picked up two ranked wins to start it off. First, they beat No. 40 Baylor 4-3, then upset No. 12 Texas at Austin on Sunday by a 4-3 score. In singles, Alana Wolfberg comes in at No. 109 in the rankings and the doubles team of Raquel Gonzalez and Ayumi Miyamoto are ranked No. 31.
