Texas Tech women’s tennis fell despite winning the doubles point
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis program fell 4-1 to No. 8 Texas Friday afternoon at the Weller Tennis Center.
Tech (7-5, 0-1 Big 12) got off to a strong start Friday, as the Lady Raiders won the doubles point from the eighth-ranked Longhorns (10-3, 1-0 Big 12).
Metka Komac and Olivia Peet combined to record a 6-4 victory on court three before Kailey Evans and Avelina Sayfetdinova sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 victory.
In singles action, Texas won all 10 sets that were completed.
Texas quickly evened the score at one-all when No. 106 Sabina Zeynalova defeated No. 70 Avelina Sayfetdinova 6-0, 6-0.
On court six, true freshman Cristina Tiglea hung tough in the opening set (3-6) before falling 0-6 in the second set.
UT pulled to within one point of clinching the match when Vivian Ovrotsky defeated Komac four and three.
Tech ultimately fell four and three on court four, as the Longhorns extended their Big 12 regular season winning streak to 32 consecutive matches. Texas' last Big 12 Conference regular season loss occurred back on April 12, 2017.
