Texas Tech women’s tennis plays in Austin Friday and Waco Sunday
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis program opens Big 12 Conference play on the road Friday and Sunday afternoon against No. 8 Texas and No. 33 Baylor.
First serve for the match between Tech and UT is set for a 3 p.m. with Sunday's match against Baylor set for a 1 p.m. start.

Texas Tech split a road weekend last weekend vs. UCSB and at SMU. After falling 5-2 at UCSB on Friday, the Lady Raiders rebounded for a clutch 4-2 victory over the Mustangs that snapped a three-match losing streak. After dropping the doubles point, Texas Tech rebounded quickly, using a strong performance from Freshman Cristina Tiglea. Tiglea won her second match of the season, winning two and three on court six.
After SMU pulled ahead with a straight-set victory on court four, Olivia Peet was victorious in straight sets against SMU's Hadley Doyle. After winning the opening set 6-4, Peet blanked Doyle 6-0 in the second set.
No. 62 Avelina Sayfetdinova gave Tech the lead for good, when she downed Jackie Nylander by a score of 6-2, 7-5 on court three. Her victory gave her side a 3-2 lead.
With one point to go, Metka Komac battled into her three-set match. After losing the first set 0-6, the sophomore won her next two sets (6-3, 6-4) to win her third straight match and seal the Lady Raiders first road victory of the season (second road match).
SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS:
Texas enters the weekend ranked No. 8 in the most recent ITA polls. After spending the first four weeks of the spring season ranked No. 1 in the poll, Texas checked in a No. 3 back on Feb. 16. Texas is in a stretch where they are playing eight straight matches against ranked foes. The stretch began with a 4-1 victory over then No. 10 USC. Texas then fell to No. 8 Oklahoma in the ITA Indoor Nationals, before rebounding for a 4-2 victory over No. 4 Cal. Tech next dropped a heartbreaker to now No. 2 NC State 4-3 (then No. 4) and a match at Stanford, before rebounding for a pair of victories over Cal (4-3) and UCF (4-0). The Longhorns have won an astounding 31 regular-season Big 12 dual matches in-a-row. The stretch dates back to April 12, 2017.
SCOUTING BAYLOR:
Baylor entered the weekend with a record of 9-4 and improved to 10-4 overall when they defeated TCU 7-0 on Thursday. Winners of four straight, Baylor will look to open Big 12 play 3-0 for the third consecutive season and for the 12th time under long-time head coach Joey Scrivano. Baylor began its winning streak with a pair of 4-0 home sweeps of Rice back on Mar. 2 and North Texas on Mar. 6. Baylor ran its winning streak to three with a 6-1 win over ACU before dropping TCU Thursday 7-0.

Tech continues its seven-match road swing next week with three matches. The first match on Wednesday will be at No. 49 Nebraska. The week continues with a matchup at K-State on Friday before closing at KU on Sunday. First serve from Lincoln is set for Noon with the matches in Manhattan and Lawrence set for 4 p.m. and Noon.
