
Texas Tech women’s tennis falls at Baylor

With the setback, Tech falls to 0-2 in Big 12 play for the first time since 2013-14
WACO, Texas – The No. 34 ranked Texas Tech women's tennis program fell to No. 33 Baylor, 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.
With the setback, Texas Tech (7-6, 0-2 Big 12) started 0-2 in Big 12 play for the first time since the 2013-14 season when Tech fell to Baylor and Texas. Tech opened Big 12 play on Friday afternoon with a 4-1 setback at No. 8 Texas.
Texas Tech got off to a slow start on Sunday, as Baylor (11-4, 2-0 Big 12) won the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 victories on court one and court three.
In singles play. No. 70 Avelina Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac both won the opening set of their matches before falling in a pair of 10-point third-set tiebreakers. Sayfetdinova dropped an epic 15-13 battle on court three while Komac fell 10-7 on court five.
No. 20 Margarita Skriabina also fell Sunday, marking the first time she has lost in Big 12 play in her career. Skriabina was a perfect 6-0 a season ago, and did not play a conference match back in 2019-20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After starting the season 6-0 and winning 10 of her first 12 matches, the Russian is now winless over her last four matches (two losses, two
unfinished).

Tech returns to action on Wednesday afternoon at No. 49 Nebraska. First serve from Lincoln is set for Noon. The match will be the first of three next week for the Lady Raiders, as the team will face Kansas State on Friday (Mar. 18) and Kansas on Sunday (Mar. 20). First serve from Manhattan is set for 4 p.m. with the KU match set for a Noon start.
