
Tech heads to Alabama for Blue Grey Tennis Classic

Tech will open play vs. Arizona Friday at 11:30
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Texas Tech women's tennis program hits the road for the Blue Grey Tennis Classic on Friday and Saturday in Montgomery.
The Lady Raiders (5-1) check-in at No. 24 overall in this week's ITA rankings, and will open play against Arizona at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The winner between Tech and Arizona will advance to face the winner of No. 7 Troy and No. 2 Wake Forest in the semifinals at 4:30 on Friday.
No. 1 overall seed and 10th-ranked Oklahoma State opens play Friday at 8:30 a.m. against Yale, while Alabama clashes with Furman in the 4/5 matchup at the same time.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Lady Raiders returned to action for the first time in 19 days last weekend, hosting both Houston and Ole Miss. Last Friday, the Lady Raiders rolled to a 7-0 sweep over the Cougars, before closing the weekend with a tidy 4-0 sweep over the Lady Rebels.
As she has the entire spring season, Margarita Skriabina shined, rolling to a pair 6-0 sets in singles action, and a quick 6-2 doubles victory. Other Tech highlights from Friday included freshman Bojana Marinkov cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court six and Olivia Peet contributing a one and three victory on court two.
On Saturday, the Lady Raiders closed the perfect weekend, earning a 4-0 sweep of Ole Miss. In the victory, Skriabina earned earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 96 Sabina Machalova. With the win in singles action, the Russian improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 against ranked opponents. Other highlights included Peet and Metka Komac earning a 7-4 tiebreaker victory to seal the doubles point, and Peete cruising to a four and one victory.

For the first time in nearly three years, Tech women's tennis is ranked inside the ITA Top-25. Tech clocks in at No. 24 in this week's rankings, the first time the program is ranked inside the top-25 since Mar. 26 of 2019. In the individual rankings, a pair of
Lady Raiders are ranked inside the top-70. Skriabina checks-in at No. 16 in this week's rankings, up a spot from the last rankings. Freshman Avelina Sayfetdinova is the other Texas Tech player in the ITA rankings. Sayfetdinova is ranked 62 in the ITA rankings.
SCOUTING THE 'CATS:
Arizona enters the weekend with a record of 6-1 overall. Winners of three straight matches, the Wildcats lone loss was at Michigan State back on Feb. 9. The Cats dropped a tough 4-3 match against the Spartans. Arizona is 29-10 this season in dual singles action and 12-6 in doubles play. Parker Fry and Salma Ziouti have combined for 11 of UofA's 29 victories. Fry is 6-0 at the No. 5 spot while Ziouti is 4-0 at No. 2 and 1-2 at No. 1.
