
Tech rolls to Blue-Grey Classic Semifinals

Texas Tech defeated Arizona, 4-1 Friday
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Powered by another strong performance from Margarita Skriabina, No. 24 Texas Tech women's tennis rolled into the Blue-Grey Classic semifinals Friday, defeating Arizona 4-1 at the O'Connor Tennis Center.
With the victory, Texas Tech (6-1) advanced to the Blue-Grey semifinals against No. 18 Wake Forest.
Due to a weather delay that totaled nearly five hours, the match against Arizona (6-2) began with singles play.
As she has all season, Skriabina set the tone early for Tech, as the Russian rolled to a one and zero victory to give her team a 1-0 lead.
Metka Komac also shined Friday for the Lady Raiders, earning a quick two and one victory on court five.
Freshman Avelina Sayfetdinova brought Tech to within one point of the victory when she rolled to a two and two victory on court three.
After Arizona (6-2) defeated Olivia Peet 6-4, 6-4 on court two, the Lady Raiders sealed their sixth victory of the season when Kailey Evans rallied for a come-from-behind three-set (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) win on court four.
With the victory, Texas Tech advanced to the semifinals of the Blue-Grey Classic against No. 18 Wake Forest.
Tech currently leads Wake, 1-0, after securing the doubles point late Friday night by virtue of a 6-1 win by Evans/Komac and a 7-5 victory from
Peet/Sayfetdinova. Play will resume with singles action tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.

The Lady Raiders will look to close out Wake Forest and advance to Blue-Grey Finals. First serve Saturday is set for 9:30 a.m. The winner of the Tech/Wake match will advance to meet the winner of No. 10 Oklahoma State and Furman.
