
Tech Heads to College Station for ITA Women’s Kick-Off Weekend

Tech will open with South Carolina Saturday, will face either No. 13 Texas A&M/ No. 23 Princeton Sunday
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis program heads east to College Station for the ITA Women's Kick-off Weekend hosted by Texas A&M at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
If Texas Tech is victorious against the Gamecocks on Saturday, they will advance to the Round of 32 where they will meet the winner of No. 23 Princeton and No. 13 Texas A&M. If Tech falls to South Carolina, they will face the loser between the Tigers and TAMU.

Tech women's tennis moved to 2-0 on the year last Friday, earning a pair of shutout wins over UTEP (5-0) and Abilene Christian. Sophomore Margarita Skriabina continued her torrid start to the spring season, as the former Big 12 Player of the Week (Jan. 18) rolled to a pair of dominant victories. Against UTEP, the Russian rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory before closing the day with a straight-set (6-1, 6-0) victory over Sylvia Viljoen of Abilene Christian. The former Big 12 Tournament No. 3 Singles Champion is now a perfect 5-0 on the season and has won 10 of 11 sets she has played. Skriabina will roll into College Station looking to build upon her resume that includes three ranked wins over players inside the ITA top-50. Other key performances included Camryn Stepp and Kailey Evans teaming up for a 6-0 victory in doubles action and Oliva Peet rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the Tech singles No. 2 slot. For the day, Peet was 3-0.

Texas Tech will return to action on Feb. 18 when future Big 12 foe Houston visits the McLeod Tennis Center. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
