Tech tennis improves to 3-0 on the young season
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Powered by sophomore Margarita Skriabina and Olivia Peet, the Texas Tech women's tennis program continued its torrid start to the 2022 spring season, rolling past SEC foe South Carolina 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
With the victory, Texas Tech (3-0) moves on tomorrow to face No. 13 Texas A&M, who disposed of Princeton today 4-1.
It was a dream start for Tech, as Skriabina and Christina Tiglea teamed up to drop Elise Mills/Lindsay Tulenko of South Carolina (0-2), 6-2. Metka Komac and Peet sealed the doubles point with a tidy 7-5 win just moments later.
With the early momentum, Skriabina and Peet kept the pedal down, cruising to straight set wins. Skriabina won her match one and four, while Peet won five and one.
Komac sealed Tech's fourth victory of the season, dropping Chloe Narboni 7-6, 6-1.
HC TODD PETTY:
"I am really proud of the ladies for the way we played today. South Carolina is one of the toughest and most competitive teams in the country. Since coach Epley has been there that's been their identity and what they've built their program on. I was excited how our team was able to respond when we were thrown into that environment."
UP NEXT:
The Lady Raiders will move on to play the 13th-ranked Aggies on Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center. First Serve is set at 11 a.m.
