Red Shuts Out Black, Series Even Heading to Game 5

Patterson has thrown seven consecutive scoreless innings in the Red & Black Series dating back to game two. He is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA in two starts.
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red & Black Series is even once again after the Red Team shutout the Black Team, 6-0, in game four behind five innings from starting pitcher Jacob Patterson and four relief innings from Sean Thompson on Wednesday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Red & Black Series is even at two games each as the Black Team captured games one and three and the Red Team has evened the series twice with game two and four victories.
Patterson (2-0) claimed his second win in the series in dominating fashion allowing just two hits with two strikeouts and a walk lowering his series ERA to 1.13.
Black Team starting pitcher Ty Damron (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks in three innings pitched.
Thompson pitched the final four innings of the game to earn his first save of the series while scattering five hits with three strikeouts without allowing a walk.
The Red Team tallied runs in five different innings with a run in the second, two in the third and a run in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.
Red Team first baseman William Hairston went 3-for-4 scoring two runs with a double, right fielder Anthony Lyons went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, left fielder Kholeton Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and RBI while second baseman Orlando Garcia (1-for-4) and shortstop Tim Proudfoot each drove in two runs for the Red Team.
Sanchez put the Red Team on the scoreboard in the second inning with an RBI triple and then Proudfoot gave the Red Team a 3-0 lead the following inning with a one-out, two RBI triple to left-center field.
Lyons' second hit of the game - an RBI double to center field - gave the Red Team a 4-0 lead in the fifth while Garcia doubled down the left-field line in the sixth to give the Red Team a 5-0 advantage. The Red Team posted its sixth run in the eighth on Garcia's sacrifice fly.
The Black Team was led by first baseman Eric Gutierrez (2-for-4), center fielder Stephen Smith (2-for-4, double) and left fielder Hunter Hargrove who went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and had two lineouts.
The Red & Black Series and Texas Tech's fall season will conclude with Game five set for Thursday, Oct. 30 with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. All games of the series will be played at Rip Griffin Park and admission is free.
