Black Team Takes Lead in Series with Game 3 Win

Smith improved to 2-0 in the Red & Black Series while lowering his ERA during the series to 1.00.
LUBBOCK, Texas - Cameron Smith earned his second win of the Texas Tech baseball Red & Black Series in a 5-1 game three victory for the Black Team on Tuesday afternoon while throwing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Black Team takes 2-1 lead in the series while Smith earned his second win of the series as the Black Team capitalized on a three-run second inning.
Smith (2-0) threw five scoreless innings in his second start of the series while allowing five hits with six strikeouts without allowing a walk.
The Black Team was led at the plate by first baseman Eric Gutierrez who went 2-for-4 with a run scored, second baseman Michael Davis who went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI and Cory Raley who drove in two runs.
Red Team starting pitcher Dylan Dusek (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs - all earned - on two hits in one-plus inning while allowing three walks.
The Red Team was led by sophomore left fielder William Hairston (1-for-4) who hit a solo homer - his second homer of the series- over the right-center field wall in the eighth inning for the only run of the game for the Red Team.
Red Team right-handed pitcher Garrett Bruce pitched five scoreless innings in relief allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. Bruce retired 15-of-17 batters faced from the second to sixth inning.
The Red & Black Series will continue with Game 4 set for Wednesday, Oct. 29 with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. All games of the series will be played at Rip Griffin Park and admission is free.
