Shue concludes action in singles Round of 32
CARY, N.C. — Texas Tech's Valerie Shue and Havana Kadi wrapped up play at the ITA All-American Championships Tuesday afternoon. Shue advanced to the Round of 32 in the qualifying draw, while Kadi picked up a victory during the tournament's pre-qualifying rounds.
Kadi opened play Saturday, Sept. 19, against UCLA's Kayla Chung. The sophomore cruised to a straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the second round of pre-qualifying.
In the second round, Kadi faced Miami's Anna Perelman. Despite Kadi taking the opening set, 6-2, Perelman ultimately secured the win battling back to take the next two sets, 6-2, 6-4, bringing Kadi's run to an end.
Shue began her tournament Monday, Sept. 21, in the qualifying draw against Nika Hurkacz. The freshman made quick work of her California foe, earning a straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the Round of 32.
Shue returned to action Tuesday against No. 77 Jantje Tilbuerger. After dropping the opening set, Shue battled back to force a decisive third set, but ultimately fell to the ranked senior, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
