Brownback, Farm and Sleptsova claim their respective singles flights
LUBBOCK — Texas Tech women's tennis opened its fall season in impressive fashion over the weekend, claiming three singles titles at the ACU Invitational in Abilene, Texas.
Ella Brownback captured the Flight A title, while Raegan Farm and Polina Sleptsova each claimed championships in Flight B and Flight D, respectively.
Brownback went a perfect 3-0 in singles en route to the Flight A championship. She opened the weekend with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 victory over Ujin Batsukh before cruising past Aya Ishii, 6-0, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Brownback then defeated Allie Bittner, 6-2, 6-3, to secure the flight title.
Farm also went undefeated in singles, dropping just one set across three matches. She opened with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Juliette Jalai before defeating Maria Castano, 6-4, 6-1. In the Flight B championship, Farm battled back from an opening-set loss to defeat Maya Chen, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.
Sleptsova dominated her way through Flight D, winning all three of her matches in straight sets. She began the tournament with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jessica Board before blanking Nuria Lafitte Valls, 6-1, 6-0. Sleptsova completed her championship run with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Maria Isabel Suarez.
Despite dropping her opening match of the weekend, Teodora Prisadnikova added a pair of wins in the Flight A consolation draw, defeating Julia Ionescu, 4-6, 6-1, 10-2, before topping Batsukh, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
In doubles, Brownback and Prisadnikova opened Flight A with a 6-2 victory over Alem Cote and Victoria Correa before falling to Kinley VanPelt and Charlotte Roesch, 4-6. The duo bounced back in the consolation draw, defeating Natalie Stasny and Bittner, 6-2.
Sleptsova and Farm also advanced through to the finals of Flight B doubles with ease, posting back-to-back 6-0 victories over Zara Zafirovska and Anna Krljic and Jalai and Avery Arant. The duo's run came to an end in the championship match with a 6-4 loss to Nuria Valls Lafitte and Marissa Minetti.
