Utes take game two on a rainy Saturday to force a rubber match
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – No. 1 Texas Tech (39-3, 15-2) dropped game two of its series against Utah (27-14-1, 5-8-1) 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Two weather delays marked a weird contest in a game that's official run time was close to five hours. The first weather delay came after the top of the first inning and the second came in the middle of the top of the fifth.
Kaitlyn Terry and Taylor Pannell were the only big contributors for Tech in the game. Terry got her first loss of the season but went 6.0 innings and allowed just four hits as all four runs scored were unearned. Terry and Pannell both went 2-for-3 at the plate and Lauren Allred got the only other hit for the Red Raiders.
How it Happened:
An off game from the start as Tech left the bases loaded in the first inning after Utah missed a pop fly but was still able to get the out at first.
A shaky defensive third inning from the Red Raiders allowed the Utes to score three runs, all unearned, and take all the momentum. Utah held the Red Raiders scoreless in the top of the fourth and added one more unearned run in the fourth.
Tech couldn't string together any hits as they were shutout for just the second time all season.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will conclude its series in Salt Lake City tomorrow at noon CT.
