March 27, 2026 | Men's Tennis
PROVO, Utah – After dropping four first sets in singles, the No. 66-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders battled back to defeat the No. 63-ranked BYU Cougars, 4-2, on Friday evening at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Texas Tech (12-7, 2-2 Big 12) began the match by winning a huge doubles point over BYU (13-5, 1-3 Big 12). At court three, the duo of Felipe Pagnacco and Thomas Van Den Dooren gave Tech an early advantage after beating Hardy Owen and Caden Hasler. Both teams traded games until it was 5-all, then the Texas Tech pair would win the next two games for a 7-5 victory.
Clinching the doubles point was Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri over Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner at court one. Once again, the two teams went back-and-forth in a battle until the Red Raider tandem prevailed with a 7-5 win. At court two, Sebastian Abboud and Tyler Stewart were leading TJ Wells and Tygen Goldammer, 6-5, when their match went unfinished.
Arsic continued his winning into singles play when he took down Chodur at court one in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-2, to give Texas Tech a 2-0 advantage. BYU cut the lead in half when Owen defeated Abboud at court six by a 6-2, 6-2 score. Guglieri made it 3-1 in Tech's favor after taking down Hasler at court five in two sets, 7-6, 6-3. But, the Cougars got one point back after Goldammer beat Stewart at line two by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 score.
It was Ludovico Vaccari who came up clutch with a come-from-behind victory over David Duoin at court three. After falling 3-6 in the first set, Vaccari bounced back with a 6-4 set-two win. He did not drop a game in the final set, picking up a bagel, 6-0, to clinch the match for the Red Raiders.
