Utah defeats Red Raiders in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 66 Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped a close match to the Utah Utes, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. Â
Utah (5-13, 1-4 Big 12) began the match by winning the doubles point against Texas Tech (12-8, 2-3 Big 12). At court two, Sebastian Abboud and Tyler Stewart got the first doubles win of the day after taking down Emmett Potter and Charles Frey, 6-3.
The two remaining matches went into tiebreaker as the Utah duo of Balthazar Huss and Dante Teramo defeated Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri, 7-6 (3), at court one. The Utes clinched the doubles point when Lorenzo Esquici and AJ Deem beat Felipe Pagnacco and Thomas Van Den Dooren at line three by a 7-6 (6) score.
Texas Tech took a 2-1 lead in the match when Guglieri overtook Huss at court five, 6-3, 6-2, then Ludovico Vaccari beat Simeon Terziev at court three by a 6-4, 6-2 score. Utah would even the contest at 2-all after Frey defeated Abboud at court six, 6-4, 6-2. Then, Teramo retook the lead for the Utes after beating Arsic at the top court by a 6-1, 6-4 score. Clinching the match was Potter over Stewart at court two with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Up next, the Red Raiders are back at the McLeod Tennis Center with a match against Arizona State on Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m.
