Tech gets seventh run-rule victory of the season
CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 1 Texas Tech (10-0) got its seventh run-rule victory of the season on Saturday afternoon as they took down NC State (3-6) 14-1.
Kaitlyn Terry got her fourth win of the season in the circle, going 5.0 innings and striking out eight batters while allowing just one run on two hits.
Mia Williams and Mihyia Davis combined for five hits, four runs and four RBI out of the first and second spots in the lineup including a two-run home run by Davis in the first inning. Desirae Spearman and Jasmyn Burns hit their second home run of the season in the third inning.
Lauren Allred, Alana Johnson and Terry recorded hits as nine of Tech's 10 batters reached safely.
How it Happened:
Terry struck out the side on 12 pitches to begin the game, setting the tone for what would another gem outing by the junior lefty. She has recorded six or more strikeouts in each of her last four starts, setting a new personal best.
Davis and Williams flipped spots at the top of the order, and it worked out early as Williams led off the game with an infield single and came around to score on Davis's long ball to right field.
Tech added a three spot in the second inning and another three runs in the third thanks to the home runs by Burns and Spearman.
NC State got its lone run of the game in the top of the fourth to make it 8-1 as they looked to avoid the run-rule, but the Red Raiders exploded for six runs in the fourth. Tech peppered the defense with six singles and had some help with an error and a walk to get the runs.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will face JMU at 3:30 p.m. CT today before closing out the weekend tomorrow against No. 8 Nebraska.
