
Red Raiders set to play Arizona at Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 75 Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to face the No. 11-ranked Arizona Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center. Texas Tech comes into the tournament as the 7-seed, while Arizona will be the 2-seed. Texas Tech (12-11, 2-6 Big 12) and Arizona are tied in the all-time series, 8-8, with the Wildcats claiming this year's matchup by a 4-0 score.
Texas Tech is led in dual singles wins by freshman Ludovico Vaccari with a 12-6 record. Just behind him is senior Sebastian Abboud with a 10-3 record. Both Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri total nine dual singles wins on the year. In dual doubles, Abboud and Piotr Pawlak led the way with 11 victories, all coming at the top of the lineup. The pairing of Arsic and Guglieri are second on the team with 10 wins.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The No. 11-ranked Arizona Wildcats are 21-4 on the season and went 6-2 in Big 12 play. Currently on a six-match win streak with key victories against Arizona State, Utah and Baylor, the Wildcats' four losses on the year have come against UCF (twice), TCU and Michigan State. Arizona has three players in the ITA singles rankings – Colton Smith (4), Jay Friend (5) and Zoran Ludoski (99). Friend leads the team with an 18-1 dual record while going 10-0 at court one. In dual doubles, the duo of Inaki Cabrera-Bello and Smith are ranked No. 29 while the tandem of Friend and Eric Padgham are ranked No. 62. Friend and Padgham are 16-1 on the season and 9-1 at the top of the lineup.
