Tech soars past Eagles

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders wasted no time against the FGCU Eagles on Sunday evening, securing its second victory this weekend with a commanding 4-0 win over FGCU.
The Red Raiders (7-4) struck first by clinching the doubles point on court two after Tyler Stewart and Ludovico Vaccari overtook Jonathan Baron and Guglielmo Stefanacci of FGCU (3-9). Trading games to a 3-3 tie, the Red Raiders surged ahead with three straight games to claim the point, 6-3.
Meanwhile, on court one, No. 66 Piotr Pawlak and Sebastian Abboud took on Hugo Magnusson and CJ Smith in another crucial matchup. The Texas Tech duo jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but FGCU fought back to make it 3-2. However, the Red Raiders remained in control, winning three straight games to help secure the doubles point.
Texas Tech carried that momentum into singles play. On court five, Thiago Guglieri delivered a dominant performance by defeating Smith, 6-3, 6-3. Vaccari followed suit on court four, battling through a three-set duel with Pablo Paternostro. Vaccari claimed the first set 6-4, before dropping the second 3-6. He stormed back in the third to push the Red Raiders' lead to 3-0 with a decisive, 6-1 score.
The clinching moment came on court two, where Baron and Arsic were competing. Baron would edge out the Red Raider, 6-3, in the opening set. Then, Arsic responded with a 6-3 second set before delivering a flawless 6-0 bagel third set to seal the match and victory for Texas Tech.
Up next, the Red Raiders travel to San Diego for the Ed Collins Invitational, which is set to take place from March 7-9.
