
No. 23 Lady Raiders play doubleheader in Eugene

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 23 Texas Tech Lady Raiders travel to Eugene, Ore., for a doubleheader against the Oregon Ducks and the Portland Pilots on Sunday, February 2 at the Student Tennis Center. First, Tech and Oregon will play at 12 p.m. CT before the Lady Raiders face Portland afterwards around 4 p.m. CT.
The newly ranked No. 23 Lady Raiders (3-1) will meet with the Ducks for the fourth time in program history as Oregon holds an all-time 2-1 record against Tech. The last time these two teams faced was when the Lady Raiders hosted Oregon for ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 23, 2016, winning that match in a 4-0 sweep. Texas Tech and Portland are set to play their first match against one another in program history.
Tech is coming off a top-10 victory against No. 10 NC State, 4-3. In that match, the Lady Raiders won the doubles point thanks to victories from the teams of No. 15 Avelina Sayfetdinova and Mariia Hlahola at court one and No. 33 Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif at court three. In singles, Hailey Murphy picked up her first career ranked win after downing No. 55 Gabia Paskauskas, 6-2, 6-2. Then, Yekaterina Dmitriechenko and Hlahola earned singles wins to clinch the match.
Three Lady Raiders lead the team with three dual singles wins in Hlahola, Murphy and Dmitrichenko. In dual doubles, the tandem of Hlahola and Sayfetdinova lead the team with a 3-1 record and four ranked wins on the year.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Oregon is coming into the match with a 4-0 overall record, getting wins over Portland State (4-0), Montana (4-0, Seattle (7-0) and Long Beach State (5-2). They will play Portland this Saturday before facing Tech on Sunday. The Ducks are led in dual singles by both Patsy Daughters and Tilde Jagare with a perfect 4-0 record. The duo of Daughters and Karin Young lead the way in dual doubles with a 4-0 record.
Portland is 0-1 to start the season after dropping a 7-0 decision to the Washington Huskies on January 29. The Pilots are led in singles by Alaia Rubio Perez with seven overall wins, followed by Sally Pethybridge with six wins. In doubles, the tandem of Rubio Perez and Pethybridge lead the way with four overall victories.
