No. 15/6 Tech closes regular season vs. UCF
October 29, 2025 | Women's Soccer
The Red Raiders are still alive to win their second Big 12 title since 2023
LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming off a bounce-back 3-1 Senior Day win over Kansas State, No. 15/6 Texas Tech closes out the 2025 regular season when it welcomes UCF for a Thursday night battle.
First touch from the John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.
Thursday's match will be the Red Raiders Truck-or-Treat match and will feature the annual scarf giveaway for the first 500 fans.
Sitting in a tie for third place in the tight Big 12 standings, the Red Raiders enter the match with multiple scenarios to clinch the programs second Big 12 title in the last three seasons.
The Red Raiders must defeat UCF and need a combination of losses or draws from first place TCU and second place WVU. If Tech and Colorado win and TCU and West Virginia lose or tie, the Red Raiders and Buffs will share the Big 12 title.
Tech could win the league outright with a win, a Colorado non-win (loss or draw) as well as losses from TCU and WVU.
In addition to the opportunity to secure hardware, the Red Raiders also have a chance to bolster their postseason resume, as UCF enters Thursday's contest at No. 26 in the RPI, giving the Red Raiders another chance at a top-30 RPI win.
Tech enters the match at No. 17 in the RPI, trailing five different Big teams: TCU (No. 3), WVU (No. 7), Colorado (No. 10), Baylor (No. 11) and Kansas (No. 13). The Big 12 and ACC are the only two leagues in America to have six teams ranked inside the top-20 in RPI.
Only the ACC (9) has more top-30 RPI teams than the Big 12 (7).
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
MATCHUP: No. 15/6 Texas Tech (13-2-2, 7-1-2 Big 12) vs. UCF (11-2-4, 5-1-4 Big 12)
DATE: Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025
TIME: 7 p.m.
LOCATION: Lubbock, Texas (John Walker Soccer Complex)
BY THE NUMBERS:
20: Since the start of the 2022 season the Red Raiders have scored 20 times in the first 10 minutes of a match and have at least two matches with a goal in the first 10 minutes in every one of those seasons. After scoring four times in the 2022 season within the first 10 minutes, Tech did it twice in 2023 and five times in 2024. The Red Raiders have scored eight times this season in the first 10 minutes. The Red Raiders have won 13-straight when scoring in the first 10 mins and are 15-0-2 in the 17 matches.
2: While putting the ball in the back of the net is the name of the game, scoring twice has been critical for the Red Raiders success as since the start of the 2022 season, the Red Raiders are now 46-0-1 (lone tie at No. 7 BYU in 2023) when scoring two goals. When you expand that mark out to the beginning of the 2021 season, Tech is 55-2-1 when scoring twice in a match.
15: The Red Raiders are 15-0-0 since the start of the 2023 season when following either a loss or draw. After Thursday's tough 3-0 setback at Colorado the Red Raiders bounced back on Sunday afternoon with an impressive 3-1 win over an upstart Kansas State team. Tech is a perfect 4-0-0 this season when following a loss or a draw. The Red Raiders have won those games by a combined margin of 10-3.
QUICK KICKS:
• With just one match remaining in the 2025 regular season, almost nothing has been decided when it comes to the final Big 12 standings and the seeds for next week's Big 12 Tournament presented by Allstate.
• And while the top-four of the final Big 12 standings is established (TCU, WVU, Tech and Colorado) the order of finish is anything but decided, as all four teams can finish anywhere from one-through-four in the final standings, as Tech still has a path to either the outright or shared Big 12 title.
• The Red Raiders can be outright champions with a non-win from Colorado (draw or tie), a non-win by WVU and a TCU loss. The Red Raiders can also be co-champs with draws from TCU, WVU and Colorado.
• And while the race for the Big 12 title and the coveted top-seed in next week's tournament is up-for-grabs, it is far from the only thing still to be decided as teams five-through-seven in the final standings are also up for grabs as UCF, KU and Baylor are on 19 points heading into the final day. Those three teams cannot finish higher than fifth or lower than eighth.
• As you head down the table the league's eighth and final tournament spot is also up for grabs, as six teams enter the final day of the regular season with a shot at the league's last spot.
• Houston (@TCU), Arizona State (@Arizona), BYU (@Utah) and Cincinnati (@WVU) are tied for the final spot at 11 points with Kansas State (9 points)) and Utah (8 points) all with a chance to steal the final bid to the event.
• In what could be a preview of next week's First Round matchup for Tech at the 2025 Big 12 Tournament, the Red Raiders will play host to UCF on Thursday night.
• The Knights currently sit tied with Baylor and KU for the fifth spot in the standings and can be either the five, six or seventh seed, making them a potential Red Raider opponent.
• The five and the four seed will play at 11:30 a.m. on Monday afternoon followed by the 1/8 match at 2 p.m. The events 7/2 match will be held at 5:30 with the 6/3 game set for 8 p.m. The two winners from the first two matches will meet in the semifinals at 4:30 on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 5) with the final two winners meeting at 7 p.m. for a spot in next Saturday's (Nov. 8) championship match at Baylor. TCU will be the host for the quarterfinals and semifinals.
UP NEXT:
