Wickenheiser and Sonis selected for CWNT camp

LUBBOCK, Texas – The June cycle of the Canadian Women's National Team Camp Cycle will have a Red Raider flair, as both Carly Wickenheiser and Janine [Beckie] Sonis have been selected to the 26-player roster for the June friendly cycle.
A veteran of nearly 130 career caps, Sonis has logged over 9500 career minutes for the Canadian Senior National Team and has scored 37 goals and recorded 24 assists.
A 2025 Texas Tech Hall of Fame inductee, Sonis has played in three different Olympics and one FIFA World Cup (2019) and is a two-time medalist for Canada. Sonis won the gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics before winning a bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
After spending the previous two seasons with Racing Louisville, Sonis was traded back to her hometown of Denver prior to the 2026 season and has made eight appearances and scored four times for the expansion Denver Summit.
The first player to captain the Summit in franchise history, Sonis provided the assist on the first goal ever scored in Summit history. In addition to the assist against Bay FC back on Mar. 13, Sonis has also scored four times which is tied for the fourth-most goals in the NWSL so far.
Tech's other CWNT selection for the June cycle, Wickenheiser, has made six career appearances for the Canadian Senior National Team and has made two starts. She earned her first career cap during the 2025 Pinatar Cup where Canada took home the gold medal.
After a decorated career in Sweden with BK Hacken of the Damallsvenskan League, Wickenheiser was acquired by the NC Courage prior to the 2026 season and signed a two-year full guaranteed contract with the Courage that will run through the 2027 season.
So far in 2026, Wickenheiser has made eight appearances for the Courage and has logged 349 minutes. She has one assist on the season and is connecting on 80 percent of her passes.
Sonis, Wickenheiser and the Canadian Women's National Team will face Costa Rica on June 9th in Cartago, Costa Rica. First touch is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT).
