
Texas Tech prepares for Tennessee road trip

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders are headed to the Volunteer State for back-to-back days of tennis. On Friday, March 1 at 5 p.m., Texas Tech will face No. 28 Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Then, on Saturday, March 2, they'll head north to play Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m. in Cookeville, Tenn.
The No. 39 ranked duo Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak had a bounce-back weekend in Lincoln, Neb., after their sole loss to UT Arlington last week. They defeated Nebraska's Anton Shepp and Nic Wiedenhorn, 6-4. Then, they beat Tulsa's No. 55 pairing Pierce Rollins and Timothy Carlsson, 6-4, on the following day. They are now 8-1 in dual matches and 2-0 against ranked opponents.
No. 85 Olle Wallin has won five of his last six singles matches from court one. In his last match against Tulsa's Pierce Rollins, Wallin lost the first set 3-6 but won the next two 6-3, 6-4. He is 7-2 in dual matches.
Pawlak and freshman Niksa Arsic also boast winning dual records. Pawlak is 4-2 to begin the year, going 3-1 in his last six appearances. He clinched the match point for the Red Raiders against Tulsa with a court five win against Victor Tosetto, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5. Arsic fell short in his last two matches but won four of the previous five he finished. He is now 4-3 in dual singles matches.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
No. 28 Middle Tennessee has a record of 10-7 this season, with four of their losses coming to ranked opponents. They have been able to gain two ranked wins themselves, against No. 22 Mississippi State on February 2 and No. 49 Boise State on February 23. No. 33 Leo Raquin is 9-6 in dual matches, losing his last match to Cornell's No. 17 Radu Papoe, 6-4, 4-6, 1-6. The other ranked Blue Raider, No. 107 Marcel Kamrowski, is 5-6 in dual matches. The Red Raiders are 7-3 all-time against Middle Tennessee, winning their last meeting, 4-2, on March 26, 2023. The Blue Raiders have come out on top in the last two matchups in Murfreesboro.

In dual doubles, the Golden Eagles are 1-6, with the sole victory belonging to Lucas Bitzer and Davids Spaks when they defeated Presbyterian's Marco Foglieni and David Mamalat, 6-1. In dual singles, Tennessee Tech is 2-16, with the two wins belonging to Murlio Burckhardt and Darek Kuczynski in their matches against Presbyterian. It will be the first time Texas Tech has played the Golden Eagles.
