LINCOLN, Neb. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team earned a ranked win on Saturday, defeating No. 56 Tulsa, 4-2, at the Dillon Tennis Center. This is the Red Raiders' first time defeating a ranked opponent this season.

In doubles, Tech's court one and two pairings came up clutch. After Tech (6-5) lost its match on court three, 3-6, No. 39-ranked Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak kept the doubles point alive with their eighth dual victory, defeating No. 55 Pierce Rollins and Timothy Carlsson, 6-4. Then, despite trailing 5-6, Lorenzo Esquici and Olle Wallin went on to win their match in a 7-6 (5) tiebreaker, capturing the first point of the day against Tulsa (3-6).

In singles, Jonas Gundacker kept the momentum going. Finishing first, Gundacker won in straight sets against Callum Gale, 6-1, 7-5, on court three. This is the freshman's eighth victory as a Red Raider. After losing his first set, 3-6, No. 85 Wallin refused to fold on court one. He went on to win 6-3, 6-4, against Rollins in the next two sets, moving him to 7-2 in dual matches.

With Tulsa capturing singles points on courts two and four, the pressure was on for Pawlak on court five. Pawlak broke serve to win his first set, 7-5, but lost the second, 1-6. With both teams looking on, Pawlak edged out Tulsa's Victor Tosetto, 7-5, in the third set to clinch the Red Raider victory. Before going unfinished, Abboud was close to winning his match on court six, leading Gus Tettamble, 6-4, 4-6, 5-2.

Next up, Tech faces Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Friday March 1 at 5 p.m., then Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., on March 2 at 1 p.m.
